Editorial Guidelines
Our Editorial Guidelines

Attorney Sun is an independent legal-industry publication focused on legal practice, law firm management, legal services, law and regulation, legal technology, and business, compliance and legal risk.

These Editorial Guidelines explain the standards we aim to apply when developing, reviewing, publishing, correcting and updating material. They are intended to provide readers, contributors and commercial partners with a clear understanding of how Attorney Sun approaches editorial quality and independence.

We examine the intersection of legal practice, compliance, and technological change. Discover our legal industry research journal to access our latest commentary and expert contributions

Our Editorial Purpose

Attorney Sun exists to publish useful, well-researched information for people interested in the legal profession and the systems, technologies, organizations and regulatory environments surrounding it.

Our coverage extends across six connected areas:

  1. Legal Practice & Professional Development
  2. Law Firm Management & Operations
  3. Legal Services & Practice Areas
  4. Law, Research & Regulation
  5. Legal Technology & Innovation
  6. Business, Compliance & Legal Risk

These areas are deliberately connected. Legal professionals increasingly operate across professional, operational, technological and regulatory boundaries, and our editorial coverage reflects those relationships.

The objective is not simply to publish a large volume of material. Each article should have a clear reason to exist and should provide information, analysis or perspective that is useful to its intended audience.

Accuracy and Factual Discipline

Attorney Sun seeks to present factual information accurately and with appropriate context.

Editors and contributors should take reasonable steps to verify significant factual claims before publication. Particular care should be taken with:

  • Legal rules and requirements
  • Legislation and regulatory developments
  • Court decisions
  • Professional standards
  • Statistical claims
  • Market data
  • Product capabilities
  • Corporate information
  • Historical claims
  • Technical specifications

Where information is uncertain, disputed, jurisdiction-specific or subject to change, the article should make that context clear rather than presenting an uncertain proposition as established fact.

We do not intentionally publish information that we know to be materially false or misleading.

Legal Information Requires Context

Legal information cannot always be separated from jurisdiction, timing and factual circumstances.

An article concerning a particular law, regulation, court decision or professional requirement should identify the relevant jurisdiction and timeframe where that information materially affects its interpretation.

Attorney Sun does not present general legal information as individualized legal advice.

Where an article discusses a complex or developing legal issue, appropriate qualification may be necessary to prevent readers from drawing conclusions that the available information does not support.

Originality

Attorney Sun aims to publish original editorial material rather than reproduce information already available elsewhere.

Articles should add value through explanation, synthesis, analysis, organization, examples or professional context.

Simply rewriting another publication’s article, changing wording, or assembling superficial information from multiple sources does not meet the standard we seek.

Contributors should submit original material and must not knowingly submit material that infringes another person’s copyright or intellectual property rights.

Sources and Research

The appropriate research process depends on the subject.

Legal and regulatory articles may require consultation of legislation, regulatory materials, court decisions, official publications, professional bodies, academic research or other authoritative sources.

Technology and business articles may require examination of company documentation, technical material, public filings, research, product information or other reliable sources.

Sources should be assessed according to their relevance, reliability, authority and date.

Attorney Sun does not require every article to follow an identical citation format. However, important factual claims should be supported by appropriate research during the editorial process.

Primary Sources

Where practical and appropriate, primary sources should receive priority for important legal and regulatory claims.

Examples include legislation, official regulatory publications, court decisions, government publications and authoritative institutional documents.

Secondary sources can provide useful explanation and context, particularly where a subject is complex, but they should not automatically replace the underlying authoritative source where the latter is reasonably accessible.

Analysis and Opinion

Attorney Sun may publish analysis, commentary and professional perspectives in addition to straightforward factual reporting or explanation.

Readers should be able to distinguish factual statements from interpretation, analysis and opinion.

Contributors should not present speculation as established fact.

Where a conclusion depends upon assumptions, incomplete information or an interpretation that is reasonably disputed, the article should communicate those limitations clearly.

Independence

Attorney Sun aims to maintain a meaningful distinction between editorial content and commercial relationships.

Advertising, sponsorship, contributor relationships, commercial enquiries or other business relationships should not automatically determine whether an editorial subject is published or how it is presented.

A commercial relationship may be disclosed when its existence is relevant to understanding the context of published material.

Commercial considerations do not justify knowingly publishing false, misleading or materially unsupported claims.

Sponsored and Contributed Material

Attorney Sun may publish material supplied by external contributors, organizations or commercial entities.

Contributed content must still meet applicable editorial standards.

Submissions may be rejected or revised where they contain:

  • Unsupported factual claims
  • Excessive promotional material
  • Misleading statements
  • Unclear authorship
  • Plagiarized material
  • Irrelevant links
  • Unnecessary keyword placement
  • Material that does not serve the reader
  • Content substantially duplicated from another source

The presence of a contributor does not mean that every statement represents the views of Attorney Sun.

Where the nature of a commercial relationship would reasonably matter to a reader’s understanding of the material, appropriate disclosure may be used.

Editorial Guidelines – Links and References

Links should serve a legitimate editorial purpose.

Attorney Sun does not consider a high quantity of links to be evidence of a high-quality article.

Links may be appropriate when they help readers:

  • Verify an important claim
  • Consult an authoritative source
  • Understand a referenced organization
  • Access a relevant product or resource
  • Explore a subject in greater depth

Links should be contextually relevant and should not be inserted merely to manipulate search rankings.

Product and Company Coverage

Attorney Sun may discuss software companies, legal technology vendors, law firms, professional services organizations and other businesses relevant to its editorial scope.

Coverage should distinguish factual descriptions from promotional claims.

When reviewing or describing a product, the article should avoid implying that a feature, capability or result exists unless there is a reasonable basis for the statement.

Product functionality, pricing, availability and terms can change. Time-sensitive information should therefore be treated accordingly.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence may be used as a research or drafting aid where appropriate, but publication standards remain focused on accuracy, originality, relevance and human editorial judgment.

AI-generated material should not be treated as automatically accurate.

Potential problems include fabricated sources, incorrect legal interpretations, outdated information, invented quotations, inaccurate statistics and misleading summaries.

Material involving legal or regulatory subjects requires particular care because an apparently plausible error can have significant consequences.

Attorney Sun does not regard the use of an AI tool as a substitute for editorial verification.

Headlines and Search Optimization

Attorney Sun may use search optimization techniques to help readers discover relevant material.

Search optimization should support the editorial purpose of an article rather than determine it.

Headlines should accurately represent the subject and should not deliberately exaggerate the content to attract clicks.

We avoid misleading headlines, artificial keyword repetition and search-oriented wording that reduces clarity or reader value.

Editorial Guidelines – Corrections

Despite appropriate editorial processes, errors can occur.

When a material factual error is identified, Attorney Sun may correct the published article rather than leaving known inaccuracies unaddressed.

The appropriate response depends on the nature and significance of the error.

Minor typographical or grammatical corrections may be made without a detailed correction notice. Material factual corrections may warrant a visible editorial note or other appropriate indication.

Readers who identify a potential error are encouraged to contact the publication with the relevant article and an explanation of the issue.

Updates to Existing Articles

Legal, regulatory, technological and business information can become outdated.

Attorney Sun may periodically review and update existing material where changes in law, regulation, technology, product functionality or other circumstances materially affect an article.

Updates should preserve the original meaning where appropriate while ensuring that readers are not presented with information that is materially misleading because of subsequent developments.

An updated article should not conceal a material change in substance simply to make the page appear unchanged.

Conflicts of Interest and Disclosure

Editorial decisions should take relevant conflicts of interest into account.

Contributors and other participants should disclose relationships that could reasonably affect the perceived independence of their contribution.

Relevant relationships can include employment, ownership interests, consulting arrangements, commercial partnerships or other significant interests connected with the subject being discussed.

Disclosure does not automatically make content inappropriate. The purpose is to give readers sufficient context to understand the relationship.

Professional and Respectful Conduct

Attorney Sun seeks to maintain professional editorial standards.

Content should avoid personal attacks, discriminatory material, deliberately misleading characterizations and unsupported allegations.

Criticism of organizations, policies, professional practices, technologies or public positions can be legitimate when supported by relevant facts and expressed responsibly.

Strong analysis does not require sensationalism.

Privacy and Confidential Information

Contributors and readers should not submit confidential information unnecessarily.

Attorney Sun does not encourage individuals to send privileged communications, confidential client information, unpublished legal documents, personal data or other sensitive material through ordinary editorial channels.

Contributors are responsible for ensuring that material they submit can lawfully and appropriately be published.

Where a submission involves identifiable individuals or sensitive circumstances, additional editorial care may be required.

Copyright and Intellectual Property

Contributors must have the necessary rights to submit material for publication.

Attorney Sun does not knowingly publish material that infringes another party’s copyright or intellectual property rights.

Third-party quotations, images, data and other materials should be used appropriately and attributed where required.

Permission should be obtained where applicable.

Editorial Guidelines – Reader Feedback

Readers are an important source of correction requests, additional context and potential editorial leads.

Feedback may be considered when developing or updating material, but not every suggestion will result in a change.

Editorial decisions remain subject to the publication’s standards for accuracy, relevance, evidence and reader value.

What We Do Not Promise

Editorial guidelines are standards we seek to apply, not a guarantee that every article will be perfect.

Attorney Sun cannot guarantee that every article will contain every potentially relevant perspective, that every legal development will be identified immediately, or that every factual statement will remain current indefinitely.

The publication’s goal is to maintain a disciplined editorial process and respond responsibly when material problems are identified.

Commitment to Readers

Attorney Sun’s editorial approach is built around accuracy, relevance, transparency and responsible publishing.

We aim to produce material that respects the complexity of legal practice while remaining understandable and useful to professional readers.

The publication will continue to refine its editorial processes as its coverage develops, particularly as legal technology, artificial intelligence, regulation and professional practice continue to intersect.

Readers who have questions about these guidelines, believe an article requires correction, or wish to raise a substantive editorial concern can contact Attorney Sun through the publication’s designated contact channel.
